About This Quote

The poet Mary Shelley was not only the creator of the monster, Frankenstein, but she also penned a book called "Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus" in 1818. In this book, she put forth a strong belief that sleep is a form of death. She claimed that sleep was an attempt by our unconscious to evade our conscious selves. She further claimed that the whisperings of the other who would drag us all into the eternal light was not a positive force. In fact, she compared it to evil spirits who would try to drag us into the everlasting light of death.
